World Women's Curling Champions Jennifer Jones and crew returned home from Vernon Monday night. The team was met by a throng of admiring fans at Richardson International Airport.
The ladies returned home to hundreds of well wishers, family, and friends. The huge reception and turnout of people really hit home with the ladies, re-inforcing what they have accomplished.
"This is the moment it really sunk in," Jones told CTV News. "It was coming home to this reception."
"I am trying my hardest not to cry - this is really emotional having so many people come out to greet us," Cathy Overton-Clapham said.
A great start and a golden finish
The Winnipeg skip, Canada's Jennifer Jones, earned a 7-4 victory over Bingyu Wang of China in Sunday's final at the Ford world women's curling championship.
Jones, lead Dawn Askin, second Jill Officer and third Cathy Overton-Clapham avenged two earlier losses to the Chinese while becoming the first Canadian team to win the title on home ice since Marilyn Bodogh in 1996.
The win also erases the memory of a fourth-place finish at their previous world championship appearance three years ago in Paisley, Scotland.
Wang, lead Yan Zhou, second Qingshuang Yue and third Yin Liu earned their best-ever finish at a world championship, surpassing their fifth-place result in Grande Prairie, Alta., two years ago.
Jones broke out to an early 3-1 lead and never trailed the rest of the way, capturing Canada's 15th world women's championship all-time.
